For this week’s music Monday post let’s pop over to New York City. Aspiring reporter Ruth Sherwood (Maureen Lipman) has been tasked with interviewing a group of Brazilian navy cadets who’ve got exactly one word of English between them — and that word is CONGA!
If there’s one theatrical role I really feel like I’m meant to play, this is it. The raspy voice, the awkward dance moves, the bevy of nattily dressed boys at her heels — come on! And let’s not even get started on her other big showstopping number in this show, “100 Easy Ways To Lose A Man”…
I also totally get where she’s at in her life here. She’s trying to build a career for herself, she knows that she’s got what it takes, but she’s headed for some really weird times before she gets where she wants to be. I’m right there with ya, Ruth!
